Introduction:
According to an article in The New York Times, America's educational advantage, once unrivaled in post WWII, is eroding significantly as a greater proportion of students in more countries graduate from high school and college and score higher on achievement tests than their U.S. counterpart.
New Zealand is still developing and advancing in its educational strategy to improve student performance. However, there is limited statistical data to share about this country. The McGraw-Hill Research Foundation produced a policy paper that explored what the U.S. can learn from the world's most successful educational reform efforts. According to the Program for International Student Assesment (PISA) tests, the top performing countries were Finland, South Korea, and Canada. I think that based on various data regarding educational reform efforts, we can learn and make some adjustments that can model the Finland's model. There will still be many challenges in making some transformations, but the quality of teachers and students that willl be generated is worth the investment. Let us work toward a model that incorporates proven educational strategies that will facilitate student success and produce life long learners.
